The income-tax department has significantly ramped up refunds, issuing 4.76 lakh crore in FY25, a 474% increase from FY14. This surge surpasses the growth in gross direct tax collections. The department has also slashed refund processing time by 81% to just 17 days, driven by digital infrastructure and streamlined processes, enhancing taxpayer experience.
